Schull Country Market gains BordBia approval!
Schull Country Market is delighted to be one of the first markets in the country to be approved under the new BordBia ‘Good Practice Standard’.
The Standard requires that a high proportion of the produce sold at the Market is locally sourced or produced, and that the Market is properly organised and run for the benefit of its customers.
Only a small handful of markets in County Cork have achieved this award so far - and Schull Country Market is the only one in the area west of Clonakilty.
We don’t expect anything much to change about the Market - but the approval only serves to confirm the excellent value and variety that you’ll find at Schull Country Market.
We’re on www.westcorkmarkets.com - your personal guide to the farmers’ markets of West Cork, Ireland. Use this website to plan your visit to our markets - where you’ll find the best local food, crafts, and craic.
Schull Country Market
Our Market takes place in the beautiful little seaside village of Schull, in the far south-west of County Cork, Ireland.
We’re here every Sunday from Easter to late September. From time to time we visit a special event or show in the area, and so we are not in our usual location in Schull - for precise details see our Special dates page.
You can find more information on the wide range of food and crafts available at the market by looking at our Directory.
In addition to the wide range of delicious foods, the market is also home to a unique selection of local crafts. These include beautiful handcrafted jewellery, handmade cards, limited edition prints & photographs, woodwork, high quality handcrafted pottery, knitting and fabric creations and unique items of painted, fused and stained glass.
Schull Country Market (established in 2000) aims to meet the demand for local and specialised food and craft products. It has all the enthusiasm of a young market while trading under ancient regulations stipulating that most products are produced ‘on the kitchen table’.
Local producers and craftspersons run their own stalls, so there is a lot of passion involved in their creations and, more importantly, the rare opportunity for direct personal contact with the producer. Because you are dealing with them direct, you will often find that prices are cheaper than you can find in the shops.
Don’t forget to bring your shopping basket and perhaps be prepared to linger longer than anticipated!
